If any of you have a student who is attending Raymond High School (or any of our schools!), you will be interested in what our graduates are saying. Last June at Grad Night 2015, the Raymond Coalition for Youth asked the graduating seniors to fill out a short survey. Here is what they had to say:

These graduates are almost unanimous in their love of belonging to this community and proud to be associated with the people who live here. Thank you for all you do for our students and know that they are in good hands in our schools.

New Bus Routes for 2015-2016 School Year
RAYMOND SCHOOL
DISTRICT
BUS ROUTES 2015-2016
This year, the Transportation Committee has done a much needed overhaul of the bus routes. Over many years, literally dozens of bus stops have been added with just a handful removed. This has led to the the middle and elementary school buses (after the high school bus runs) arriving later and later. Our bus drivers do a fantastic job getting everyone picked up and to school and home safely, but Raymond is geographically very large and difficult to cover. We have middle school students arriving home at 3:20 (school gets out at 2:35) and elementary students arriving at their home bus stops after 4:00 PM (school gets out at 3:10)! In the winter, this is dark. (In the morning, we have the opposite issue: one example is middle school students catching the bus at 7:15 for an 8:10 start to their school day.) To save money, there is one set of buses that begins with high school then the middle school and finally the elementary school. If a bus has many stops or travels a long distance, it creates a domino effect. Here's how the long process of redoing the bus routes worked.
Members of the Transportation Committee began by following each of the buses on their routes beginning last January. This took quite a bit of time- 8 buses with 8 different routes for 3 schools! (It was a lot of stop and go.) The bus drivers then took notes on the stops they make, how many students are at each stop, how close the stops are to each other, and made recommendations for changes. We also had the administrators at the middle and elementary school take notes on the times the buses actually show up at the end of the day and how long it took before the buses were ready to leave with students. All of this information provided the committee with an accurate picture of the bus runs. A four hour meeting was held with the Transportation Committee and Dail Transportation to finalize changes to the routes based on all the information that was gathered.
Here is some of what we found out that helped with these difficult decisions. In some neighborhoods, children were picked up at nearly every other house while in many other neighborhoods children were expected to walk to the main road nearest their home for pick-up. This alone was inequitable and added considerable minutes to the run time for these buses. There were also bus stops that no longer had students who lived close to the stop, and several more where the initial reason for the stop was no longer valid. (We also looked at roads where there were blind curves and no safe place for a bus to stop.) Some of our youngest students were on the buses for 30-40 minutes due to the number of stops.
The Transportation Committee spent considerable time looking at, first, safety, then distance students would need to walk (based on RSA 189:6 and 189:8), while also ensuring equity and fairness for all families. After months of looking at the lists, matching them up to addresses and reasonableness of walking to a stop, the final routes are listed below. These new stops will be a change for many of our families. (Since we have a contract with our bus company, these changes do not save any money but allow for the shortest amount of riding time on a bus and helps create equity.)
Please remember that our goal is to have each student arrive at school and at home safely and in a reasonable amount of time.
