Snow Weary

Even the most ardent "fan" of snow has become a little tired of the view this winter.  (I don't actually have a view- I can only see a little bit of the sky above the snow piles outside my windows!)  My eyes are longing to see green and colors in the landscape, but according to the weather channel, this snow pack may last through March. 

I want to assure everyone that our school roofs are in good shape and our buildings are safe.  Todd Ledoux, our Facilities Director, has been keeping a close watch on the snow and the snow loads on each roof.  As we know, this last foot of snow put neighboring school districts in a difficult situation.  This week, Todd had a crew of 20 on the middle school roof shoveling the snow off the roof.  It took them about 4 hours and resulted in snow piled up to the roof and covering the windows!  Later, equipment was brought in to remove the snow from against the building- this two day process was quite an undertaking.

In addition, there were a few spots on the high school roof and the elementary school roof that have been cleared where drifting occurred.  My first priority is always the safety of our students whether it be making a decision about canceling school; purchasing new safety equipment; or the condition of the buildings and roofs.  Everyone who is a part of our district feels the same: I want to assure the citizens of Raymond, that we will continue to make safety our priority.

Now, if I could just melt all this snow.....
