There was also a Memorial Day observance held at the elementary school on Friday and I hope you had a chance to attend this heartwarming ceremony. Alison LaCasse, our LRES music teacher, did a wonderful job choosing and arranging the music: songs for each branch of the service and the old-time patriotic songs that always bring tears to my eyes. As the students sang, they were accompanied on the piano by Sandy Ellis. It was wonderful! It reminded all of us why we have this long weekend. A big thank you to everyone who made this event happen!
Prior to this ceremony, I visited students in their classrooms. In some of the classrooms, I asked students how many had family members who had been in the military. Each time I asked this question most of the hands went up and the students talked about grandfathers, uncles, cousins, parents who had served. We are all touched by someone who has sacrificed part of their lives to the military and serving our country- and some who have given their all.
Remember our military families- not just this one weekend but throughout the year. Our freedoms are precious.
